Thin Lizzy – Black Rose – LP

Black Rose: A Rock Legend stands out as Thin Lizzy’s ninth studio album and their highest-charting UK release, reaching number two. It’s notable for featuring Gary Moore as a full-time guitarist, whose longer stay brought a fresh edge to the band’s sound under Tony Visconti’s production. The record balances rock anthems like “Waiting For An Alibi” with more personal moments such as “Sarah,” penned by Phil Lynott for his daughter, adding emotional depth to the album’s mix of swagger and storytelling. The cover’s stylized black rose nods to the album’s title and mood without overstating its presence. This 1979 pressing captures the original energy of the release on vinyl, offering a solid listen with typical signs of use that won’t distract from the music’s impact. Graded VG+, expect light surface marks or paper scuffs that are common for its age but nothing that should interfere significantly with playback. A record that slots nicely into any rock collection, it’s one of those albums where the guitar work and Lynott’s songwriting prove that sometimes a longer stay makes all the difference.
