The Four Tops – Live! – LP

Four Tops Live! captures the energy of a 1966 Motown Monday concert at Detroit’s Roostertail, where the Four Tops brought their soulful R&B to an eager crowd. This live album stands out by blending their signature hits like “Baby I Need Your Loving” and “I Can’t Help Myself (Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch)” with surprising covers such as “The Girl from Ipanema” and “Climb Ev’ry Mountain,” revealing the group’s knack for crossing genres without missing a beat. Their take on Tom Jones’ “It’s Not Unusual” adds another layer to their versatile performance, making this a snapshot of Motown’s vibrant live scene in the mid-60s. It’s the sort of set that proves the Four Tops could keep a dance floor moving even when the songs wandered beyond the expected. This 1966 pressing offers a genuine window into that era’s live Motown sound on vinyl, with a VG+ grade indicating some light surface marks and minor paper scuffs, but overall presenting solid playback for everyday enjoyment. It’s a record that will fit comfortably alongside other classic Motown releases, and while it may not be a flawless collector’s gem, it’s ready to hold its own on your turntable with plenty of soul to spare. After all, not every live album gets to be the opening act for a Motown showcase—this one did.
