The Dave Brubeck Quartet – Countdown

Countdown: Time In Outer Space captures the adventurous spirit of the Dave Brubeck Quartet as they explore complex time signatures and rhythmic innovation. This 1962 studio album stands out not only for its musical experimentation but also for its striking cover art featuring Franz Kline’s 1959 painting “Orange and Black Wall,” which visually complements the album’s bold approach. Produced by Teo Macero, the album offers a distinctive listening experience that reflects Brubeck’s willingness to push jazz boundaries during this period. This 1967 mono reissue presents the album, delivering those adventurous rhythms with clarity on vinyl. The record itself is in very clean condition, showing only minimal light surface marks that won’t distract from playback. Owning this pressing means adding a piece of jazz history that’s as visually compelling as it is musically daring, housed in a format that invites close listening rather than just casual background noise. It’s a solid choice for collectors who appreciate the art of timing—both musical and chronological.
