Dave Brubeck – Jackpot – LP

Jackpot captures Dave Brubeck’s quartet in a live setting at the Tropicana Hotel in Las Vegas, delivering a set where Brubeck’s piano work shines alongside Paul Desmond’s alto saxophone, Gene Wright’s bass, and Joe Morello’s drums. Produced by Teo Macero, known for his jazz collaborations, this 1968 release includes lively performances of tracks like “Ace In The Hole,” “Chicago,” and the title piece “Jackpot.” The album’s energy reflects the dynamic interplay that earned Brubeck praise for his sharp pianistics and tight ensemble work, proving that even in a casino, the real jackpot lies in the music itself. This vinyl pressing from 1968 offers a solid listen with a VG+ grade, meaning it plays well with only the lightest surface marks typical of everyday use. For anyone looking to add a live snapshot of Brubeck’s band from this era to their collection, this record provides both historical context and musical vibrancy without the need to chase a flawless copy.
