Blondie – AutoAmerican – LP

Blondie’s Autoamerican captures a bold phase where the band stretched beyond their punk and new wave roots to embrace jazz, funk, and early hip-hop influences. Recorded in Los Angeles under Mike Chapman’s production, the album features notable collaborations like Motown’s Wah Wah Watson on “Live It Up” and Flo & Eddie on “T-Birds.” Its genre-blurring spirit shines brightest on “Rapture,” which made history as the first rap-influenced track to top the US Billboard Hot 100, while their reggae take on “The Tide Is High” also hit number one on both US and UK charts. This album is a snapshot of Blondie experimenting with American sounds, proving they were as comfortable exploring new territory as they were leading the charge in New York’s punk scene. This 1980 pressing of Autoamerican comes in very good condition, showing some wear that might introduce light background noise but remains fully playable. Its vinyl surface reflects the kind of use that suggests this record has been enjoyed without reckless abandon—a practical choice for those who appreciate a listen with a bit of history behind it. If you’re curious about Blondie’s adventurous side or want to hear “Rapture” and “The Tide Is High” straight from a pressing close to the original era, this copy offers a tangible connection. It’s a record that wears its musical variety like a well-traveled passport, without demanding a lounge chair by the turntable.
