Jimmy Smith’s Plain Talk offers a nuanced exploration of jazz organ in an intimate acoustic setting, showcasing his deft command over tone and timing. Recorded with a compact ensemble, the album invites focused listening, highlighting subtle interplay rather than flashy solos. It stands apart in Smith’s catalog by emphasizing a quieter, more reflective mood that rewards attention to detail, making it a thoughtful choice for those who appreciate jazz that speaks softly but carries a clear message. This 1982 pressing brings Plain Talk to vinyl with a surface that remains glossy and very clean, showing only minor, light marks that won’t intrude on playback. It’s the kind of record that quietly insists on a spot in your collection—not boisterous, but impossible to ignore if you know where to find it.
