Masterjam by Rufus & Chaka offers a carefully crafted listening experience that leans into intimate arrangements and a focused acoustic approach. The album’s blend of soulful grooves and subtle instrumentation creates space for Chaka Khan’s distinctive voice to shine, especially on tracks like “Do You Love What You Feel” and “Any Love.” This record finds a sweet spot between danceable energy and thoughtful musicianship, making it a rewarding listen for those who appreciate finely tuned ensemble work rather than bombast. This 1980 pressing presents the album on vinyl with a clean, glossy surface showing only minor signs of light handling. The acoustic ensemble feel here means the grooves hold plenty of detail, and this pressing’s neat presentation keeps it straightforward—no need to dig through a labyrinth of editions to find a serviceable copy. If you’re carving out space for Rufus & Chaka’s nuanced side, this one fits nicely without stepping on toes.
