Petula Clark – Memphis – LP

Petula Clark’s 1970 album Memphis offers an intriguing glimpse at her interpretive range beyond the hits that defined her earlier career. The collection includes covers like “It Don’t Matter To Me” from Bread and “Neon Rainbow” originally by The Box Tops, where Clark’s voice adds a fresh layer of rhythm and warmth to familiar material. Her take on “People Get Ready” further demonstrates her knack for blending soulful classics into her repertoire, making Memphis a quietly diverse set that invites listeners to appreciate her adaptability in a shifting musical landscape. This pressing from 1970 on Warner Bros. carries the green label typical of that period, a detail that helps place it visually and sonically among other records of its time. The vinyl itself is graded VG+, meaning it shows signs of careful play with minor surface marks or light paper scuffs but nothing that should overshadow the listening experience. For anyone interested in exploring Clark’s less obvious catalog moments, this record holds up as a solid, playable example that’s ready to slide into your collection without demanding special treatment. After all, not every record needs to shout to be heard.
